Enamel Jewelry Care FAQ

Enamel Jewelry Care & FAQ

Kiln-fired enamel is glass fused to metal at high temperatures — it's vibrant, durable, and made to be worn and enjoyed. With a little mindfulness, your piece can stay beautiful for years. Here's what we suggest.

How durable is kiln-fired enamel?

Enamel is glass, and like all glass it can chip or crack if struck hard enough against a rigid surface. Under everyday wear — dressing, light activity, normal handling — it holds up well. We recommend treating your enamel jewelry the way you would any handmade glass object: with a little care rather than assuming it's indestructible.

How should I clean my enamel jewelry?

Wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth after wearing. If your piece needs more cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth and mild soap, then pat dry immediately. Avoid abrasive cloths, polishing compounds, ultrasonic cleaners, and steam cleaners — these can scratch or stress the enamel surface.

Can I wear it with lotions, perfume, or hair products?

We suggest putting on your jewelry last, after applying lotions, perfume, sunscreen, and hair products. These products can leave a film on enamel over time and may affect the metal setting. When in doubt, wipe the piece gently after wearing.

What about saltwater and chlorinated water?

We recommend removing enamel jewelry before swimming in the ocean, pools, or hot tubs. Saltwater and chlorine can be hard on metal settings and may affect the finish over time. If your piece does get wet, rinse it with fresh water and dry it thoroughly right away.

What if my piece chips or cracks?

Because enamel is glass, a hard knock against tile, stone, or metal can cause a chip or crack. If this happens, please reach out to us — we'd love to talk through your options. We handle repair and replacement inquiries on a case-by-case basis.

How should I store enamel jewelry?

Store each piece separately to prevent scratching. A soft pouch or a lined jewelry box with individual compartments works well. Avoid tossing pieces together loose in a bag or drawer where they can knock against each other.

Can I wear it every day?

Many people do — and we love that! Just be mindful during activities where the piece might take a knock: gardening, working with tools, sports, or heavy lifting. Taking it off during those moments will go a long way toward keeping it looking its best.

When should I contact the shop?

Please reach out if:

  • Your piece chips, cracks, or the enamel separates from the metal
  • A setting loosens or a finding (clasp, ear wire, bail) breaks
  • You have questions about a specific piece and how best to care for it
  • You're not sure if something you experienced in shipping is normal

We're a small handmade studio and we stand behind our work. We'll always do our best to make things right.

A note on handmade variation

Each enamel piece is made by hand in small batches, so slight variations in color, texture, and surface are part of what makes it yours. These aren't flaws — they're the fingerprint of the process.
